The International FRONTALE Film Festival is organized by the city of Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Europe.
- FILM FILE REQUIREMENTS
• Container: MP4 or MOV
• Video codec: h.264
• Audio codec: compressed, preferably AAC or AC3
• Signal format: 1080p or 720p
• Frame rate: 24, 25, 30 fps
• Aspect Ratio: 16:9 or 4:3
• File size: max. 10Mbit/sec
• Video Length: max. 25 mins (credits included)
- LANGUAGES & SUBTITLES
We accept all languages but submissions in a language other than German have to be subtitled either in English or German for consideration. This also applies for films in English. Foreign language films without subtitles will not be taken into consideration and automatically drop out. Subtitles need to be hard-coded and cannot be sent separately.
- MUSIC VIDEOS
Music videos are not allowed.
- FILM LENGTH
The maximum length is 25 minutes! Credit rolls included. There is no minimum length.
- LIMITATION OF AGE AND ORIGIN
There is no restriction of age for the filmmakers nor the location of production. However, there is a restriction concerning the year of production of your film. All films that have been produced before 2017 do not qualify.
- LIMITATION OF SUBMISSIONS
You can submit as many films as you want, all listed requirements considered.
However, these two rules firmly apply:
a. Every submitted film has to be registered separately through our website. Please do not send multiple films within just one application.
b. Please do not submit any films that have already been submitted and rejected in previous years. We only consider your newest works from last year.
- FILM TOPIC
There is no specific topic. Everything can be submitted. The “FRONTALE Film Festival Committee” and the “Competition Jury” reserves the right to refuse inappropriate and defamatory submissions (e.g. racism, sexism, misogyny, violence just for the sake of violence etc.) without giving any reasons.
All types of films are allowed. No matter if documentary films, animated films, live action, silent films, musicals, music videos, short narrative features, experimental features, home movies or professional film productions: everything is permitted. There is also no genre limitation.
- FILM SUBMISSION PROCESS
In order to submit a film to the festival you have to go through these simple steps:
a. Read these Terms & Conditions carefully.
b. Complete the online application form in order to successfully register a film.
c. Send a download link to your movie file, either right within the online application form or later through mail or email: email@example.com
d. Meet the deadline!

Letters from outside the EU have to be labelled either as a “sample” or “gift” with no more than $ 10.- / € 10.- of commercial value. Please keep the packaging small and thin.
Deadline is April 27th, 2018. Letters have to arrive at our office within the deadline.
- FILE NAMING
The submitted film file must be named as follows.
Spaces have to be replaced by underscores. Please do not use umlauts and special characters and stick to lower case letters only.
Please use the English title of your film if the original title has special characters (Chinese, Japanese…)
- FILM MUSIC
The music used has to be either royalty free / copyright free or all rights must have been cleared before submission. The FRONTALE Film Festival does not bear any costs generated by claims of collecting societies. If such costs should occur, the submitter agrees to bear all costs generated by aforementioned claims.
- COMPETITION JURY
After reviewing all submissions the jury picks the “official selection” of the festival and determines the winning films of the competitions. After the final decision the filmmakers will be notified accordingly. All decisions made by the jury are final. Feedback for individual films will not be available.
The best international short film will be awarded a prize money of € 1.500.-
The audience award consists of voluntary donations by the festival audience, collected directly at the festival.
Only one film can win the international short film competition and/or the audience award. However, it is possible that the same film can win both awards.
The awards will be presented personally during the award ceremony.
- RIGHTS OF THE ORGANIZERS
The organizers reserve the right to make copies of all submitted films at their expense and to use them for archiving and advertising purposes that are linked to the festival. Furthermore, the organizers are allowed to produce film clips and video stills of the submitted films and utilize them for promotional use via internet, TV, radio and other media. By violating the terms and conditions of the competition a film can be removed from the festival program at any time. The organizers reserve the right to show any submitted films out of competition at the festival.
- DUTIES OF THE ORGANIZERS
The organizers do not make claims to the author’s rights of the submitted films. The author’s rights are not affected by participation in the competition. The organizers do not sell any rights nor do they realize any profit by the films submitted. Personal data is only used in context of the competition and related events and will not be passed onto third parties without permission of the author. The organizers are not obliged to return submitted material.
- DUTIES OF THE SUBMITTER
The submitter transfers the right of public demonstration/screening of the submitted film to the organizers. This includes the International FRONTALE Film Festival itself as well as related events. This also includes the right to present the submitted films in full length on the festival website www.frontale.at and the associated YouTube-Channel. The submitter can object to this rule via e-mail up until the official festival date. The submitter of a film keeps the organizers indemnified against all claims of third parties. The people/actors appearing in the submitted films have to agree to the screening of the film in the competition. The submitter assures to fill out the online application form on the festival website truthfully.
- ENTRY DEADLINE
Deadline is April 27th, 2018, 11:59 pm CET/UTC+1. Letters need to arrive at our office within this deadline.
- FINAL PROVISIONS
By entering the competition the filmmakers unconditionally agree to the Terms and Conditions stated above. All decisions are final and binding in all respects and not subject to legal recourse.
