Lena is seventeen years old and lives with her mother in a shabby tower block. She is seething on the inside. She is angry – with her mother’s former boss who has sexually abused her, with men in general, with her transient job as a cleaning lady, with foreigners. But then she falls in love with Farid, a muslim. From loathing his religion and his origin she moves on to developing an interest in him and his belief. When Lenas and Farids relationship is met with a challenge, it’s up to her to make a decision. But Lenas mother, played by Heike Makatsch, also wants to have her say in it. Marked by life herself, she tries to prevent her daughter’s change. FREMDE TOCHTER tells the story of a young woman’s search for her place in life, of getting up again after experiencing bitter disappointments life offers, and of the fight for self-determination, identity and love.
